Columbia River Gorge Marathon Albums (2 of 5) :

On Saturday we went out the inspect the course of the marathon. We decided however to drive up the gorge a little before devoting the rest of the day to the marathon. There's a amazing WW1 War Memorial at Maryhill. This is full size replica of Stonehenge, England - built in concrete. Amazing.

Then we drove down the route of the marathon from "The Dalles" to "Hood River City" - 26 miles along the old gorge road. It's very beautiful. It has two very significant hills. Miles 10-13 climb about 800 feet, before falling back to the valley floor at 19. Then 19-22 climb about 600 feet, before falling back to the valley floor at the end. The challenge of this marathon is to climb the second hill when you are tiring after 19 miles. We'll see how it goes. Hoping to do 4:15 - 4:30.
