We had a wonderful vacation in July 2004 in Glacier National Park, Montana. We enjoyed the pleasure of the company of the Pojes - Jim and Sandy, Nadine, Sally and John + Grandfolks Mary and Warren. The Johnsons - Andrew and Penny, Lizzie, Alice and Angus.

We travelled by train from San Jose to East Glacier Park, Montana - 2 nights and 1 day. We stayed for 3 nights in Many Glacier Hotel, 3 nights in Apgar Village and 2 nights at Sperry Chalet.

One of the best holidays we've ever had - thanks guys for your splendid company.

Lincoln Pass, Montana

It was now time to say "Goodbye" to Sperry Chalet and the folks there and take the long way back. This is a 14 mile trail over Lincoln Pass (1000 foot climb) and down to Lake Ellen Wilson - named after President Woodrow Wilson's wife. Then another 1000 foot climb over Gunsite Pass and the Continental Divide. A long 2000 foot descent to Gunsite Lake completes the Mountain Trail. 6 rather boring miles through forest bring you to the trail head at St Mary's Falls. Sandy picked us up and drove us back to Apgar for a very welcome shower, shave and clean clothes. We estimated 7 hours - and achieved 6 hours 50 minutes. Very enjoyable walk.

To Sperry Chalet

This world is full of amazing locations
Where people go to spend vacations
Disney World in Florida
The Barrier Reef in Australia
Montana's the subject of this naration.

Where is this holdiay paradise?
With accomodation you'll call "a surprise"
It's called Sperry Chalet
And it hidden away
On a mountain with views to dazzle your eyes.

So how did I discover this nirvana
Of Glacier National Park, Montana?
My friends Jim and Sandy Poje
Said "Ali and Robin must go
To visit Sperry on vacation this summer.

So we got on the train in California
And by Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Montana
We travelled 1 day and 2 nights
Before we saw the unforgettable sights
Of Marias Pass and the Divide Continental.

Sperry's at the end of a trail
Than can make some pople wail
"Are we there yet?"
"It can't be much further!"
At journey's end you hang your pack on a nail.

And there's more surprises for you as well
Your life story to strangers at dinner you tell
Then the rules "don't feed the animals"
"Don't flush the urinals!"
Guests compete for who has worst smell.

So is this heaven or is this hell?
How to find the answer I can tell
Start walking in Logan Pass
Via Gunsite and the Continental Divide
Heaven or Hell?
At Sperry Chalet YOU can decide.

Now to close let's say a word or two
For our hosts - Kevin and Crew
They work hard all day
For very little pay
Let's hear it folks "Thank You".
