Tahoe Marathon:  (2 of 4)
On the day after the Lake Tahoe Marathon, I thought "I'd like to explore Nevada a little and go to Reno". I thought Carlo and Gary had to get back home, so I was surprised and delighted when they came with me.

We ended up going to the old wild west mining town of Virginia City. This is where the Comstock Lode was discovered. Silver - and later gold was found and exploited in the 1860's onwards. In fact I learnt on the History Channel that Silver from here financed the Civil War for the North - and that's why Nevada became a state in the 1864. The following web site disputes this story and says the reasons for statehood were political, not economic. click here

Virginia City is the wild west. We had the good fortune to visit on a beautiful autumn day - a little chill in the air, sunny and very nice. After I left Gary and Carlo at our motel in Tahoe, I drove through Donner Pass - very beautiful.

This was a very enjoyable weekend - thanks to the company of Carlo and Gary. Not only are you very impressive athletes - you're great company as well. Thanks guys.
