Tahoe Marathon - Oct 9, 2004

Tahoe Marathon:  (1 of 4)
I had a very nice weekend at Lake Tahoe with my friend Carlo Flores and his son Gary. It was Carlo's 80th birthday and he asked me to walk with him in the Lake Tahoe Marathon - and of course I said "Yes". It was going to Ali's first marathon, however Ali had to go unexpectedly to England to deal with some family matters, so she didn't make it. None the less a great weekend. We finished in just over 7 hours - very good for a man of 80. I made a present for Carlo - a framed poster - to see it click here. Congratulations Carlo - you're an inspiration.

Carlo's son Gary did an amazing 1:37 in the Half Marathon - and was placed 24th overall. A very good effort - 5 minutes better than last year. And he did the Tahoe bike ride the day before - 4 hours to cycle 72 miles round the lake. Great stuff, Gary.

There are quite a number of events in the Tahoe Marahon week. Another event is the Tahoe Triple Marathon - three marathons in three days. Participants go all the way around the Lake (72 miles) plus a little extra to make up 3x26.2 = 78.6 miles. Our TNT friend Corey achieved that for the second consecutive year. Corey is a 7.5 hour marathon walker - so almost 24 hours walking in 3 days - you deserve your medal Corey. Congratulations.

The whole event seems very well organised to me - lots of aid stations and buses to fetch participants from here to there. And of course roads have to be closed and so on. It's all very impressive. Lake Tahoe is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen - it was really great to be there. And there were also some TNT buddies - Coaches Janna and Michelle, Mentors Kathy, Debra, Bonnie, Celeste and Honoree Carol. As always - great to see you all.
