Big Sur 10k - Oct 22, 2005
My running club Stevens Creek Striderslike to go to the Big Sur 10k at Big Sur, California. This is a very beautiful place on Highway 1, south of Monterey. The event is held every October in the Pfeiffer State Park. The course winds its way up and down the Big Sur River a couple of times. It's very beautiful. We went down on Friday night and stayed in the campsite. The race starts at 10am - so not an early start.
We were delighted to enjoy the company of a group of our Striders chums. Young Brian brought his guitar and amazed me with his playing. Don also brought his guitar and we did some singing around the campfire on Friday night. On Saturday, Jim came to join us and proceeded to come 21st in a field of 1000 runners and walkers. I finished in new PR of 46.22 - 10 seconds better than the same event 2 years ago. Peggy finished in 47-07 and came 4th in her age division. Bill finished 48.51 and was third in his division - very good running Bill. Larry and Brian also ran and did very well to finish about 56 minutes. Good Running Everybody.
We also enjoyed the company of Striders who didn't run. Mark, Amanda and their daughter Rosie came, and Bob, Marsha and their grand-daughter Olivia. Dennis also came and elected not to run. All those folks proceeded to provide a pan-cake feast for everybody after the event. As in previous years, President Peggy is the Pancake Person of Perfection and made everything happen. Thanks, Peggy - you're a great president of the club - and a very impressive athlete.
Ali and I really enjoy being in Striders. We often join the regular club meeting on Saturday morning where we have very enjoyable runs, followed by breakfast. We also like the social events with the club such as the Big Sur 10k. The next social event is the Holiday Party in December. I'm on the plate to arrange a slide show as part of the evening's dinner and activities. We're really looking forward to the Party. See you there!
