My birthday is Jan 18, 1951. So I'm 54 this year. A Tuesday this year, and to my surprise Adobe paid for lunch! So Elizabeth (my manager), Michael (my Team leader), Doug (my friend) and I went out for lunch. Thanks guys for making the day special.
When I got back to the office after lunch, my co-worker Joan called to say "Robin - I've got a present for your birthday." Extraordinary - a bonsai tree. Thanks Joan - what a nice surprise. I promise to do my best not to kill it. I'll keep at the window in my office and water it every Monday. Joan has been the host of my birthday party in recent years: 2004 and 2003 (2002 was pre digital camera days). We'll get together with Joan when Ali returns from England. Thank you, Joan - you're one of the nicest people I've ever met.
Ali's still in England dealing with some family business - so we had dinner on Friday night at Penny and Andrew's house. Dennis came. Cake, Curry, Presents and Friendship - who could want anything better.
We're planning a trip to the Grand Canyon later in the year - very exciting. Details later. So Dennis gave me a book "Hiking Grand Canyon National Park" - that'll be very useful. The Johnsons gave me Bill Bryson's book "A Short History of Nearly Everything" - I'm sure that'll be a real good read.
