Penny and I ran in Silicon Valley Marathon today. Jean ran in the Half Marathon.
Jean successfully defended his Masters SVM Half Title today (1:17, I think).
Penny was 1st in the 45-49 women and ran a blistering 3:37:47. Penny's previous PR was 3:45 at CIM last December. She qualified for Boston with 23 minutes to spare (4:00:59 required).
I did 3:40:53 - better than my wildest dreams. I qualified for Boston with 5 minutes to spare (I needed 3:45:59). My plan was to run my first ever sub-4hr today and try for Boston at Sacramento in December. Today was effortless, I was quicker in the second half then the first (1.51 out, and 1.49 back).
Mike S's friend Kathy achieved a very credible 3:58 in her second marathon (4:15 in her previous San Francisco 2004). Very good work - a Boston Finish (3:50) looks possible for Kathy next year.
Their were other Striders involved. I believe Tom K and Jack P were running - however I don't know their results. Terry R was doing splendid work on the water stop at Blackford School (mile 5/21). Thanks Peggy and Bill for supporting and jogging along for a bit. And thanks Dennis, Terri and Jim for being in the Discovery Meadow to cheer us over the line, the prize giving and breakfast after.
I'd like to thank Ali, Dennis, Penny and Jim for their amazing encouragement and support. You guys believed I'd see this day when I thought "I'll never be good enough". And loads of encouragement from members of Striders, colleagues at Adobe, my family - and lots of other folks. Thanks guys, I love you all.
