Steve Reagan one of our Strider friends suggested we have a weekend to go and run the opening 24 miles of the Western States Trail. There were 12 of us - Steve, Penny, Dennis and I ran the trail. Ali, Andrew, Lizzie, Alice and Angus did the transport and the aid station at mile 16. Thanks guys - you did a lot of sitting around waiting for us. Linda, Lee and Winnie ran on another part of the Western States Trail - including a section which hasn't been run since a forest fire about 3 years ago.
On Sunday, Dennis, Ali and I went for a walk down through the forest to the North Fork of the American River. It was 4.5 miles and more that 2000 foot drop from ForestHill Ridge to the river below. Then of course we had to climb back up the trail. None the less, a very nice walk. On the way home, the rear passenger window of Dennis' car suddenly shattered. Presumably we were hit by a stone on something. Very dramatic.
We stayed at the Christmas Tree Lodge near Foresthill. It was really nice. The place is run by a very nice American lady called Claudia. She has a couple of dogs. There's accomodation for 12 - so we filled the place. Claudia provides breakfast and we had a pot-luck for dinner on Saturday night. Thanks Claudia for your hospitality.
So thanks everybody for your company on the weekend. A special thanks to Andrew, Ali and the kids for waiting at the aid station for the runners to eventually show up. Your support is appreciated.
And Thanks to Steve for arranging the weekend. Very nice weekend. Thank you.
