WS Training - May 27-29, 2005

Western States 100mile Endurance Run (3 of 3) :

We had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend in Foresthill, CA at the Western States 100 Training camp. We enjoyed the pleasure of the company of the Linehans, Johnsons, Connors and the Strudleys. And we saw Steve and Tom - two of our favourite Striders. Thanks guys - it's just great to know you all.

The Western States is a 100 mile endurance race held at the end of June every year. In addition to the considerable challenge of the 100 mile course, the trail goes through the Sierras. It's a really hard run.

On Saturday, the plan was to run 28 miles from somewhere near Dusty Corner, throught Last Chance, the Canyons, Michigan Bluff to Forest Hill - 28 miles in all. Aegus, Penny and Trevor managed the whole run - however I dropped out at Michigan Bluff. Coming up over Devil's Thumb is the hardest trail I've ever been on. How folk manage 100 miles of this stuff is a mystery to me.

Anyway, on Sunday Dennis, Trevor, and Liz ran 20 miles from Foresthill to Rucky-chucky. All in all, Trevor seems in good shape to be able to tackle Western States in 4 weeks time. We'll be at the aid station at Last Chance - so we'll see you there and we'll be in Auburn to cheer you in at the finish on Sunday morning.
