Mt Rushmore Fireworks - July 3, 2006

Summer Vacation 2006 (14 of 22) :

July 4 is of course Independence Day in the USA and is always celebrated by singing the National Anthem and Fireworks at 9pm. Remarkably, the Firework show at Mount Rushmore is on July 3 and watched live by an estimated crowd of 400,000. We decided not to face the traffic and crowds at the Mount Rushmore Center, and found a suitable viewing position on top of a hill about 3 miles away. Of course we took up our position about 6pm and had a picnic while passing the time. Although it was raining when we arrived, the weather was nice by the time of the display at 9.15 or so.

The photos of the fireworks aren't very good. I was using the little Sony Camera without a tripod. We had trouble with our Canon (very unusual) and lost photos. However Jim and Richard had their Canons and tripods and didn't do a whole lot better.
