Our running buddies Elvira and Charles were married on April 23, 2008. St George's Day. The Patron Saint of England. Elvira's expecting a baby boy in July and wouldn't it be fun to call him George. Two reasons:
- Well, remember St George and the Dragon.
- Elvira's from Germany and the English royal family are descended from the Hanovarian Kings, who came from Hanover of course and were all called George.
Mind you, I don't believe either Elvira or Charles have any connection to England. So I should mind my own business and they'll decide the name for themselves.
We discussed a gift from the Striders to the happy couple and Peggy said "Could you do something with your photos, Robin?". So I made a photo album with
iPhoto on the Mac. I was surprised to discover that I had more than 100 photos of the pair - sometimes together, sometimes on their own, and often with other Striders. So I had a good choice and 88 photos made a beautiful 44 page book. I've got to say, I was incredibly pleased with the result and so was everybody at Striders. More importantly, Elvira and Charles loved the book.
I hope the book with become a little family treasure. It will remain forgotton for years and then the kids will discover it when they are teenagers. Who knows it might make an appearance at their wedding or something.
Whatever happens to Elvira and Charles for the future - we wish them well. And I hope the book brings happiness and joy as they take the journey of marriage and family together.
