Firetrails 50 miler - October 11, 2008

My running buddies Penny and Dennis were running in the Firetrails 50 miler. It's a long way and some of the climbs are demanding. Dennis is training for Western States in June 2009 and this was going to be a good measure of the effectiveness of his current training program. He's going GREAT. He hoped to be under 12 hours - and did 10hrs 39mins. Well done, Dennis.

My contribution to the day's events was to run with Dennis from mile 37 to the finish. A 3 hour run with a couple of moderate hills. Peggy was making a similar contribution by pacing Penny over the last 13. Penny did really well. She'd stayed with Dennis until we all met at Skyline Gate - and then proceeded to run away from us at 2mins/mile. A 10hr 21min finish. Great stuff Penny.

Also taking part from the Striders were Bill D (10hrs 6min). Incredible for a guy of 74. And 'Notre Français' Jean P who was third overall in the amazing time of 7hrs 15min. This is 8:41 mins/mile over a very demanding course. Christina also successfully completed the event, although I didn't see her on the day. And Lina was running in the Marathon event and did very well by finishing 5th woman in a very impressive time of 4hrs 25mins. Well done everybody from Striders.
