Penny and Andrew invited us and the Poje family to come for dinner on Sunday December 21 - the shortest day! Penny's mother Kate had arrived a few days earlier from Australia to spend the Holidays with the family in Cupertino. Welcome to California, Kate. Good to see you back with us. This is the 5th time that Kate has visited the USA and Ali met her when she was here in 2003 and 2005.
Penny as always made a great job of the dinner. Smoked salmon, cheese, grapes and drinks before dinner. Free range chicken casserole for dinner. Chocolate pudding and cream for dessert. A totally delicious dinner as always from Penny's kitchen.
Afterwards the ladies and kids went to Vasona Park to see the Nativity Lights and returned with stories of the new additions for 2008 to this Bay Area tradition. The guys stayed behind to do a little clearing up and talk a lot of stuff about the state of the world. 2008 has been an extraordinary year and the 2009 looks very challenging. We'll see what the future will bring.
Ali and I will be visiting the Poje family on Christmas Day - however the Johnsons are going elsewhere. So the ritual of the exchange of presents between the families took place when everybody returned from Vasona Park. Tee shirts in anticipation of our trip in 2009 to Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks were enjoyed by everybody.
Thanks everybody for your company. And thank you Penny and Andrew for your hospitality and efforts in the kitchen. And thanks to Kate for making the long and expensive journey from Australia to be with us.
