I don't think there's a lot to talk about here. We got on the Empire Builder at 7pm and it arrived early at Portland about 9:40 (schedule 10:20). We went for a walk to a huge second hand book store and we had lunch. I lost my wallet on the train and after a few anxious searches (and cancelling the credit cards), it turned up safely from dropping from my track pants pocked between the seat and the wall. Many thanks to Frank the waiting room attendant and Justin the cleaner for finding it.
We got the Coast Starlight to San Jose and enjoyed the wine tasting in the parlor car. Then dinner and more wine. Very relaxing. Very enjoyable.
And then the train arrived in San Jose about 11:45 - a little under 2 hours late. Jim's friend Janice came to meet us and drive us to our cars. Then we collected our luggage and returned home to a nice shower, clean the camping equipment, laundry and of course a final update of the web site.
Thank you everybody for your company on this trip. Especially the project manager Jim who organized everything and paid for most - possibly all the Amtrac tickets. Awesome, Jim. An amazing vacation. Of course thanks to other Poje people - Sandy, John, Nadine and Sally. Thanks to Richard for joining us from Seattle. The Johnsons - the best buddies anybody ever had. A wonderful family - Andrew, Penny, Alice and Angus (Lizzie's on vacation in Australia at the moment). And finally "I love you" to Alison - my wife, supporter, mother, grandmother and super extraordinary person. I couldn't live without you.
