John Muir (1838-1914) was a Scotsman and hugely influential in the establishment of the National Parks. He features on the Quarter (25¢) Coin of the State of California. The liberty ships (747 of them) were built at the Kaiser Shipyard in Richmond during WWII. The yard is long gone, however there is a memorial to mark where the ships were built. There is a plan to have a National Park to respect the work of the people of "The Greatest Generation". We found Gaylord in as good spirits as always. All in all, a nice day out.
