Genoa, Italy

Olympics (4 of of 14 ):

I was very impressed by Genoa. The Italian's have style and it's everywhere to be seen. Genoa is a very hilly city. It's squeezed between the mountains and the Mediterranean Sea. It's a major sea-port and the city still has substantial remains of medievael walls and gates. The most famous son of Genoa is Christopher Columbus after whom the airport is named.

Traffic - the curse of all cities - is especially busy here. They drive much smaller cars than Americans and there are many scooters and small motor-cycles. Modern day Italy inherited the Roman ideas of piazzas and open-spaces in the cities. So although this is a very densely populated place, there are also piazzas and tree-lined avenues.

Fabio had fixed my accomodation in a bed and breakfast near the Railway Station. It was very nice and the breakfast was perfect. Fresh fruit, yogart, coffee and toast. The fruits were even better than California.
