Weekend July 28-30, 2012
We're in England for the Olympics. We watched the opening ceremony on Friday evening and really enjoyed it on Jamie's huge 3-D TV - especially when HM The Queen said "Good Evening, Mr Bond.".
On Saturday we drove over to Peter and Vicki's in Cambridge and ran in a 5 mile event. No photos because we left the camera memory in the laptop! Peter run the Tenzing-Hillary Everest Marathon in May - an amazing adventure. Thank you Vicki and Peter for your hospitality.
On Sunday we had lunch in Norwich with the Burwitz family. I worked with Daniel at Adobe and we see each other most years when he visits San Jose. However we hadn't seen the rest of the family for more that 10 years. It was very nice to see them. Gosh, the girls have grown up!
And then we drove to Sheffield in Yorkshire to stay for a few days with our friend Elisabeth. She's moved her to be closer to her son who came her to study and met his partner Vicki. I've never been in Sheffield and it's very nice. It was a steel town and has faced formidable economic challenges - well explained in the movie "The Full Monty".
Yorkshire is famous for many things, and Sheffield is on the edge of Peak District National Park. Elisabeth has rescued the gray-hound "Swift Royal" who's career was terminated by a broken leg. His name's been reduced to "Swift" and he's a very nice dog. We had a lovely walk around Agden Reservoir and lunch in Upper Bradfield. The showery weather didn't spoil a nice day which we finished with Ice Cream at "Our Cow Molly". And then back to Elisabeth's to watch some Olympics and talk about this'n'that.
