The Kronikles of Tony and Ruth

Day 13 - Wednesday 12 July 2006

Day 13 – OUWOOO. What’s coming down today? Stay away from black cats, ladders, and chuck salt over shoulder.

Merv confirms the morning birdcall as a butcherbird’s. The Byrnes’ lovely daughter Kirsten arrives to drop of her son Sam. Upon enquiry she recommends Naked Coffee in Elizabeth Arcade for coffee. She promotes film locations in Queensland and would not take her clients anywhere else.

Breakfast is poached egg over dynamite beans and leftover sausage.

After helping out Liisa and Sam with the crossword, Ruth and I catch the commuter train to Main Station (not Roma as my stubborn friend Bob insists). The fare is $5 for the day and we can use any form of transport within the City including the City Cats.

Walking past the ANZAC memorial I ring up Bob and agree to keep in touch in case we are in the same place at the same time. Coffee at Naked Coffee is as good as Kirsten said it would be. Walking across the Queen St Bridge we head to Southbank where we catch a City Cat. These speedy catamarans call in at all the suburbs on the river and are a marvellous way of seeing the City from another perspective. Squatting up front we complete the whole circuit, soaking up the views.

Alighting at Riverside we choose Jade Buddha for lunch. Wonderful view, wonderful food. You’ll have guessed by now our life revolves around food and coffee. Coffee again at Naked Coffee before jumping on the train at Central. Alighting at Indooroopilly we are drawn to the cocktail bar at the hostelry for a pre dinner sparkling white.

A pungent curry together with chutney, rice and cool cucumber sambal is prepared by Liisa and shared with Mervyn, Kirsten, Sam, Craig, Brad and Ruth. Absolutely delicious Indian fare.

Chatting with Merv after dinner I learn of his passion for and of his knowledge of cars, engines and anything to do with motor sport. He is so enthusiastic that my interest is aroused and I’m determined pay more attention to this field.
