Eleven hours. Eleven wonderful hours of sleeping and lolling around in a wonderful bed in the wonderful Byrne’s apartment on Sunshine Beach. I don’t often able to spend so much time relaxing in the fleecy whites, usually some bloody compulsion drives me out of bed to “do things”. Anyway I get up to join Merv watching the Tour de France on TV. The ladies remain luxuriating in their boudoirs and why not? This is a holiday destination.
I have baked beans and egg for breakfast so I can truly say I’m full of beans. The weather outside is full of beans too – it’s pissing down and the raindrops are the size of beans.
Dodging sheets of water we dash to the “Costa Noosa”. The aroma inside is heady and emanating from a large coffee bean roaster surrounded by happy coffee aficionados sipping away. One can see the beans changing colour through a little round window and there is a small sampling shovel implanted in the wall of this machine. When our order arrives it is superb!
We buy cheeses, sausage and olives for lunch that is followed by an excursion into Noosa Township.
Hasting Street is very crowded, the traders are happy: what is there to do on a rainy day. The eateries and shops are sweaty with damp, cashed up prosperous looking people. The girls go to buy up while Merv and I walk to the point where board riders are enjoying small, well shaped waves. One surfer paddles out and catches waves standing up by the use of a long one bladed oar. True!
We meet up with the ladies for another coffee at “Aromas” and then Merv and I catch the shopping bug as wall and buy some cool shirts. Worried by this contagion we hurry back to Sunshine Beach.
Seven o’clock finds us at the Café “Stella”. The Order: Lisa enjoys Lamb shanks, Ruth has Fillet Steak, Merv wants his favourite: Sticky Pork and I go for the Red Curry Duck. We are very happy with our plates. That may be cold weather fare but it is still raining and quite cool.
Our darling partners retire at 9.00 PM while Merv and I watch the Lions overcome the Hawks in the last quarter. Merv stays on to see the Cowboys play the Broncos on the telecast from Townsville. I’m confident my handshake with ‘Muzza’ will see the Cowboys over the line.
Good Night at 10.30
