A peek through the curtain reveals some high altitude cloud with bulk sunshine. Sue rings with an invitation for coffee and after our smoked salmon/poached egg breakfast, we descend to the Rickey suite to chat away and enjoy the excellent brew on offer.
The Rickeys having checked out, the four of us take to the boardwalk again. Another brilliant, sunny day. Sue, Darryl, Ruth and I wax enthusiastically about the surrounds, take photos, explore the point south of Shelley Beach and inspect the boulders forming the breakwater at the Heads.
The appearance of the rocks is striking. Each and everyone of them has been used as a base for attempted artwork. Brilliant colours, memorials, names, witty sayings, deep meaning thoughts, bright pictures etc adorn the breakwater promenade. I cannot resist taking too many photos. Back at the White Albatross we enjoy more coffee then stroll back to the Motel where, with hugs and kisses (obviously I don’t kiss Dazza), Ruth and I bid fare thee well to Sue and Darryl – another couple of wonderful and valued friends.
The top comes off the Peugeot to explore Macksville and Scotts Head. At Scotts Head it’s delightful to see some grey panthers on Malibu boards hanging five, sitting in the tube and performing other nostalgic manoeuvres. The short boards are so fast, manoeuvrable and the action is mind boggling as it is thrilling. Here the pace is languid, with waves being caught way before the peak, reminding us of how we used to surf. A conversation with one of the surfers completes the trip down memory lane with many a surfing spot discussed.
I’m loosing hearing in one ear so back at Nam.Hds. I make an appointment to clear the build up of wax. The waiting room is packed and the doc, an exhausted Indian, unable to dislodge the wax with a syringe, prescribes a softener advising me to seek medical attention further down the track.
For dinner we have Barramundi/Sauv.Blanc. We are tired and fall asleep at 10PM cuddled up on the couch in front of the telly.
