A peek through the window revealed a dark, overcast day but no rain. An uneventful drive to Ulladulla. We stop for coffee where an ample, freckled chest dressed in black approaches us (its owner arrives five minutes later!!) and takes our order. Sure made an impression.
Ten minutes into our drive north, Bang! – A storm hit and it was raining jellyfish (big drops dummy!) In the continuing storm we stop at Nowra for lunch – a very forgettable meal. What was it? I forgot.
We drive on in the rain and reach Kiama at 3 PM deciding to spend the night there. The famous Kiama blowhole is huffing and puffing, blowing high spumes of water adding to the wet sky. The noise is horrendous, dare I say primeval, and the soaked onlookers lean back at each blast.
Wet and awed we book into the Kiama Ocean View establishment. Ruth thinks the proprietor is a bit sleazy. Nonsense I say! Relieved after the soggy drive we wash down some cold cuts with a bottle of Sauvignon Plonk
Rex and Anne Harris – old surfing mates. We used to surf and camp together with them and Noel and Marion for years in the 60’s. They live in Ocean Grove Vic. Every year they had north and stay for 2 to 3 months during the Victorian winter. At Evans Head they golf and play lawn bowls. In Geelong we get together often for food and wine etc.
